What is a Development Programme? 

Sikhul’ekhaya, meaning “we grow at home”, is Khula Sizwe’s commitment to staying true its ethos of enabling the growth of a nation by being a nurturing and supportive parent in the property space to the beneficiaries of the programme, and by extension, the end users, its stakeholders, and the nation at large. With that background, Khula Sizwe has launched its flagship initiative, the Sikhul’ekhaya Landlords Programme.  

 

The Enterprise Development accommodation / property development initiative by Khula Sizwe aims to support township-based, micro to small landlords to: 

  • Comply to municipal property regulations.  
  • Formalize business operations to an appropriate standard 
  • Have access to similar accommodation alternatives for business sustainability. 

What kind of support does the programme offer? 

The following support will be provided during the programme, based on the maturity level and development needs of the Business:  

  • Business Training 
  • Mentorship 
  • Property/Industry Compliance 
  • Operational Tools 
  • Branding and marketing 
  • Property enhancement 

What is the aim of the programme? 

The programme is aimed at supporting title deed holders to improve and develop their properties to become compliant, approved, and attractive accommodation. 

Who qualifies to apply for the programme? 

The Programme is open to Landlords who meet the following criteria:  

  • Soweto Based 
  • Property Ownership with title deed 
  • Fully Operational Business 
  • Registered Business  
  • Minimum 5 tenants 
  • Air BnB / Guesthouse or Block of flats 

How long is the programme? 

The Programme is a 8-months programme. 

How does one apply for the programme? 

Complete the full online application and upload supporting documents. 

What documents are needed for application? 

  • ID Copies 
  • Title Deeds 
  • Pictures of the property 

When do applications open and close? 

Applications will open for a month on 3 June 2024 and close on 28 June 2024 

 

Is it only for Soweto? 

Yes, specifically for landlords in Soweto. 

 

What is the process followed after applications? 

The Process is as follows:  

  • Adjudication of applications. 
  • Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to present to a panel. 
  • Successful applicants to complete assessments. 
  • Onboarding session for all successful applicants  
  • Diagnostics assessment for selected applicants.  
  • Individualised Growth Plans 
  • Business Development Process
